China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC), a state-owned Chinese company, has distributed foodstuffs among 1,000 poor families at Roypur Union at Anwara Upazila in Chattogram, which was badly affected by the recent flood.

Relief materials including rice, lentils and cooking oil were distributed among them at an event held today, reads a press release.

Anwara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Zobair Ahmed, Anwara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Dulal Mahmud, Roypur Union Parishad Chairman Jane Alam and CHEC Representative MEA Shazzad attended the event.

"China has been a trusted friend and reliable development partner of Bangladesh over the years. As Bangladesh recently suffered terrible floods, it is our moral responsibility to extend our helping hand to its people whenever needed," said MEA Shazzad.

"During the pandemic we helped almost 10,000 people in different areas of the country with food and PPEs. We are committed to fulfilling our corporate social responsibilities in future as well."

China Harbour has been implementing one of the biggest Economic Zones of Bangladesh- Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) on 774.25 acres of land at Anwara.

The CEIZ is expected to attract nearly USD 1 billion foreign investment and to create 60-90 thousand jobs, which will contribute to boost the economy affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
