Amid growing concerns over recent incidents of mob violence, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today (24 June) said legal action will be taken against everyone involved, including members of law enforcement, if found guilty.

"Footage is being reviewed. If any member of the law enforcement agencies is involved, they too will face consequences," the adviser told reporters after a meeting on law and order ahead of the national election, reads a ministry press release.

Asked how many people have been prosecuted so far, he said, "I cannot give an exact number, but action has been taken against many."

On the broader law and order situation, Jahangir Alam said all agencies are working to maintain stability in the lead-up to the polls.

"The Election Commission will carry out the polls in a free and fair manner, and the ministry will provide full support," he said, calling on all election candidates to cooperate with the authorities to ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process.

He said the meeting also reviewed risk-prone areas and discussed strategies to deal with potential threats.

On a separate note, commenting on the ruling party's inactivity, the adviser said, "Awami League could not hold any programmes on its founding anniversary. The party seems to be losing momentum."
