Fire Service holds metro station fire drills in uttara and bijoy sarani

Fire Service and Civil Defence conducted comprehensive firefighting, rescue, first aid, and evacuation drills at two key Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) metro stations on Tuesday.
The preparedness exercises were held at Uttara Centre Metro Rail Station at 11:00 a.m. and Bijoy Sarani Station at 3:00 p.m. The simulation aimed to demonstrate coordinated emergency response during fire incidents on metro premises.
Key equipment deployed during the drills included water tenders, pump-carrying tenders, scissor lifts, ambulances, and snorkel vehicles. Firefighters were joined by DMTCL security personnel and trained local volunteers from the Fire Service network.
The drills simulated the immediate evacuation of passengers, containment of fire, administration of first aid to injured individuals, and transfer of patients to hospitals. The Metropolitan Police and Traffic Police provided support by maintaining crowd and traffic control.
Speaking after the drills, AKM Khairul Alam, Director (Administration) of DMTCL, highlighted the importance of readiness in emergency scenarios. Md. Saleh Uddin, Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence (Dhaka Division), briefed the media, emphasising that the initiative aims to raise awareness among both metro authorities and the public.
"This exercise is part of an ongoing series to ensure everyone is informed and prepared to act during real emergencies," Saleh Uddin said.
The drills were led by Kazi Nazmuzzaman, Assistant Director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, Dhaka, and coordinated by Md. Shajahan Sikder, Officer-in-Charge of the Fire Service Media Cell, along with Senior Station Officer AKM Raihanul Ashraf.
Officials and employees of DMTCL, as well as zone chiefs of the Fire Service, were present during the simulations.
The Fire Service Media Cell has confirmed that similar awareness and emergency readiness exercises will continue across other metro stations in future phases.
