Satkhira court sentences Evaly CEO Rassel to 3 months in jail

A Satkhira court today (22 June) sentenced e-commerce platform Evaly's chief executive officer Mohammad Rassel to three months of non-rigorous imprisonment in a cheque fraud case.

The court also fined Rassel Tk155,000 (the amount stated on the cheque) on a complaint lodged by a client.

Joint District Judge M Habibur Rahman handed down the sentence in a case filed by plaintiff Sheikh Tanzir Ahmed.

Additional public prosecutor Advocate ABM Imran said Tanzir Ahmed issued a bank cheque in favour of Evaly to buy a motorbike but the shopping platform could not deliver the product in due date and instead gave him a cheque worth Tk155,000 which was dishonoured by the concerned bank.

The complainant then sent Evaly a notice but received no response, prompting him to file a case accusing the platform's CEO of fraudulence.

Russel, however, was not present when the judgment was delivered.
