NCP says no objection to polls in April if measures taken for July Proclamation
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has said they have no objection to holding the upcoming parliamentary polls within the timeframe announced by the Chief Adviser, but effective measures must be taken within that period for implementation of the proclamation of the July Movement.
Earlier in the day, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus announced that the national election would be held any day in the first half of April 2026.
"Based on the announcement, the Election Commission will provide a detailed roadmap for the elections at an appropriate time," he was quoted by BSS as saying during a televised address to the nation on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha.
In an immediate reaction, Member Secretary of the National Citizen Party, Akhtar Hossain, said, "The Chief Adviser mentioned about holding the elections by April next year… If effective steps are taken to implement the July Charter, July Proclamation and state reforms within the period, then the NCP has no objection to holding the election on the announced timeline," Prothom Alo reports.
