UIU’s Dr Tahmina Faiz wins OWSD Early Career Fellowship

Dr Tahmina Faiz, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacy at United International University (UIU), has been awarded the prestigious Early Career Fellowship by the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) in recognition of her exceptional achievements in international research.
Dr Faiz, one of only 15 scientists from Bangladesh selected globally for the 2024 fellowship, earned her PhD from Nagoya University in Japan and is currently conducting innovative research on hydrogel technology for wound healing.
The OWSD Fellowship is awarded annually to outstanding early-career women researchers from developing countries, enabling them to enhance their research capacity, establish international networks, and assume scientific leadership roles. Sponsored by Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the programme seeks to enhance scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange in the Global South.
Dr Faiz recently participated in a four-day orientation workshop in Trieste, Italy, where selected fellows from around the world engaged in sessions on research planning, leadership, public engagement, and policy-level scientific contributions. The event concluded with a formal award ceremony where Dr Faiz received the UNESCO-OWSD Early Career Fellowship Award Certificate for 2024.
Describing the fellowship as a milestone in her professional journey, Dr Faiz said the recognition would further inspire her research and help amplify the global presence of Bangladeshi women in science.
