Presenting an eight-point proposal to overcome the ongoing political crisis, the Khelafat Majlis yesterday said there was no scope for Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to resign amid the current situation.

Their proposal, which includes an immediate call for an all-party national convention, reforms, and the announcement of a clear roadmap for national elections, comes on the back of a conversation between National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam and CA Yunus, where the latter expressed frustration and felt he had to step down.

News of the resignation sent shockwaves throughout the country.

At a press conference at the Khelafat Majlis's central office in the capital's Paltan, the party said there was widespread concern among the people regarding the current political situation.

"News about the possible resignation of the chief adviser of the interim government or differences of opinion within the interim setup has created worry and anxiety among the public."

Reading out a written statement, its Secretary General Ahmad Abdul Kader said, "We believe that the fall of the Awami fascist regime, which had been oppressing the nation like a crushing weight for the last 16 years, was achieved through immense sacrifice and bloodshed…The fascist misrule of Athe wami League came to an end through the people's uprising."

"The fallen fascist regime left the nation's economy, education, culture, administration, and electoral system in a disastrous state. Overcoming this condition has been a major challenge for the interim government."

He said that while all political parties, the military and anti-fascist forces had been cooperating, recent disagreements among political parties had become public, which was highly undesirable.

"Rumours have spread that the chief adviser of the current interim government wants to resign. This has deeply unsettled the nation. Immediate steps must be taken to eliminate all concerns," Abdul Kader added.

The Khelafat urged for dialogue to resolve the political tensions.

"All political parties, individuals, and institutions must play a responsible role. For the sake of maintaining anti-fascist national unity, everyone must act sincerely. State institutions must stay within their constitutional bounds and play a positive role with responsibility."

It urged that the opportunity created by the July uprising to move the country forward must not be wasted, adding, "Reforms, elections, and justice for fascism must be pursued simultaneously."

At the press conference, Khelafat outlined an eight-point proposal. It called for full cooperation with the interim government on reforms and elections, an immediate all-party national convention, and a clear roadmap for reforms and polls.

The proposal urged speeding up justice against the fallen regime and vigilance against actions that may compromise the interim government's neutrality.

It also stressed regular dialogue with political parties and ensuring commitment from all parties, the administration, and stakeholders to carry out reforms, prosecute past abuses, and hold fair elections.
