Shakib sets unwanted record for most T20 ducks by a Bangladeshi

The left-hander was dismissed without scoring in both of his recent outings for Lahore Qalandars, including the second qualifier on 23 May. On that occasion, he lasted just two deliveries before being caught out while trying to accelerate the scoring rate.

Shakib Al Hasan, the face of many proud records in Bangladeshi cricket, has now added one to his name that no batter wishes to claim. Following a pair of dismissals for nought in consecutive matches at the Pakistan Super League, the veteran all-rounder now holds the record for the most ducks by a Bangladeshi in T20 cricket.

The left-hander was dismissed without scoring in both of his recent outings for Lahore Qalandars, including the second qualifier on 23 May. On that occasion, he lasted just two deliveries before being caught out while trying to accelerate the scoring rate. In the previous match, he had fallen to the very first ball he faced, marking a tough return to competitive cricket after a lengthy break.

These back-to-back ducks brought Shakib's total to 32 in T20s involving Bangladeshi teams and players, pushing him ahead of Soumya Sarkar, who had been dismissed for zero on 31 occasions. While Soumya has batted in 232 T20 innings, Shakib has had a much longer career in the format, with 410 innings to his name—more than any other Bangladeshi batter.

Other players on the list of most T20 ducks for Bangladesh include Imrul Kayes (22), Tamim Iqbal (20), and Mushfiqur Rahim (19). But on the global stage, Shakib still trails some of the biggest names in the game.

The world record for the most ducks in recognised T20 matches is held by West Indies' Sunil Narine, with 48. He is followed by Afghanistan's Rashid Khan (45), England's Alex Hales (44), South Africa's Rilee Rossouw (35), and a trio with 33 each—Glenn Maxwell, Jason Roy, and Paul Stirling.
