Locals lay siege to police station protesting killing of madrasah teacher in Narsingdi

Locals of Monohardi upazila in Narsingdi district today (19 May) laid siege to the local police station demanding justice in connection with the killing of a madrasah teacher.
Hafiz Abul Kalam, 32, a madrasah teacher of Hafizpur village in Monohardi upazila, was injured in an attack by his rival Shahid Ullah over picking mangoes on Friday (16 May) afternoon.
Five people, including Awal, 65, father of Abul Kalam, were injured in the attack.
Abul Kalam succumbed to his injuries early Sunday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
This morning, the body of Abul Kalam reached his house.
Later, the locals, along with the body of the deceased, besieged the Monohardi Police Station demanding the arrest of the attackers within 24 hours, said Abdul Jabbar, officer-in-charge of the police station.
However, the protesters went away after two hours following assurances from the police.
Already, two people were arrested in this connection, and police are trying to arrest the others, said OC.
