Wheel falls off Biman aircraft during takeoff, lands safely in Dhaka with 71 passengers
According to Biman’s technical experts, it is possible for the aircraft to make a safe emergency landing even with a missing rear wheel
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight travelling from Cox's Bazar to Dhaka lost a wheel during takeoff but managed to land safely at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today (16 May), with 71 passengers on board, including children.
Flight BG-436, a Dash 8-Q400 aircraft, departed Cox's Bazar at 1:20pm and shortly after takeoff, the pilot contacted Dhaka's Air Traffic Control (ATC) requesting an emergency landing.
In response, Shahjalal International Airport authorities initiated full emergency protocols, including deploying fire service units near the runway.

"The wheel detached just after the aircraft took off from the runway at Cox's Bazar Airport," said ABM Rawsan Kabir, general manager (Public Relations) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, speaking to The Business Standard.
"Our engineering team was stationed by the runway at Shahjalal Airport in anticipation. The flight declared an emergency, but it landed safely at 2:17pm. We will investigate the cause of the malfunction," he added.
