To ease healthcare facility in the region, two new hospitals will be set up in Hathazari and Karnaphuli upazilas of Chattogram district as a plan in this regard is underway, said Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum today (14 May).

Speaking at a views-exchange meeting on 'Addressing Waterlogging in Chattogram City and Development of the Oxygen-Hathazari Highway' at the Circuit House, she emphasised the urgent need for expanded healthcare infrastructure in the port city.

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and several other key advisers also attended the event.

Remembering a recent visit to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, the adviser said the divisional hospital has been struggling with the overwhelmed number of patients.

"Patients are receiving treatment on the floor, even near toilets. To improve access to healthcare, we are planning to build hospitals in Hathazari and Karnaphuli. Patients from Rangamati and Kaptai will be able to get service in Hathazari while those from Patiya, Satkania and Chandanaish will be served from Karnaphuli facility," she said.

She also announced plans for a new dental college and hospital in Kalurghat area, addressing the absence of specialised dental care institutions in the region.

Education Adviser CR Abrar, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter, Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam, Special Envoy to Chief Adviser Lutfey Siddiqi, Bida Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud bin Harun, and SDG Principal Coordinator Lamiya Morshed, were, among others, present at the event.
