Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Asif Mahmud, called on the public to remain alert following the government's decision to ban all activities of the Awami League (AL).

In a post on his verified Facebook page last night (10 May), Asif warned that mass murderers are plotting to incite unrest in response to the ban.

"After being banned, the mass murderers are planning to create chaos across the country. I urge everyone to stay alert and vigilant," he wrote.

Earlier, the decision to impose the ban was made during a special meeting of the council of advisers at the State Guest House Jamuna last night.

The ban will remain in effect until the International Criminal Tribunal's (ICT) proceedings against the party are completed.

The adviser came up with his Facebook post following the decision.

Asif emphasised that a final ban through a judicial process would be a more acceptable and permanent solution.

The amendments to the ICT Act had already been made in response to demands from students and the general public.
