A Bangladeshi man died while undergoing treatment after allegedly being shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Kasba border in Brahmanbaria late Monday (5 May) night.

An Indian national who was with him at the time was also injured in the incident.

The deceased, Md Shakib, 25, from Guchchagram village in Bayek union under Kasba upazila, died yesterday morning while receiving treatment at Comilla Medical College Hospital.

The injured Indian national, Sujan Barman, 35, from Agartala in India's Tripura state, has been admitted to a private hospital in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

According to local authorities, the incident occurred around 11:45pm near the Madla border.

Kasba Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Samiul Islam said Shakib and Sujan had gone to the border area to retrieve a stolen motorcycle when BSF personnel opened fire. Both sustained gunshot wounds.

Shakib was taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. His body has been sent home.
