Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday said like many others, he is also against war anywhere in the world.

"But we live in a world where the threat of war surrounds us always," Yunus said after his visit to the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) Base Bir Uttam A K Khandker in Dhaka today (30 April) to observe a military exercise and address air force personnel.

Apparently highlighting the global context, Yunus said it becomes difficult to remain unprepared and it is a suicidal approach to stay without preparation in such a situation, reports UNB.

While addressing the members of the Bangladesh Air Force, the Chief Adviser also referred to the situation between India and Pakistan and the media reports suggesting a war-like situation.

The chief adviser mentioned that the war is always very expensive but there must be efforts to take the preparation to a higher level.

The base, located in Kurmitola within Dhaka Cantonment, was recently renamed in honour of Air Vice Marshal A K Khandker, Bir Uttam, a key figure in Bangladesh's Liberation War and the first chief of air staff of the BAF.

"Despite facing numerous challenges on 28 September 1971, a small team of 57 members formed what would become the historic 'Kilo Flight'— comprising a water aircraft, an elevated helicopter, and a Dakota plane. This marked the birth of the nucleus of the Bangladesh Air Force, a memory that will remain everlasting," CA Yunus said during his address.

"The name 'Kilo Flight' was derived from the initials of a living legend — Bir Uttam Air Marshal A K Khandker — who was also the deputy chief of staff of the Liberation Forces. Recently, by naming this airbase after him, we have attempted to honour him with the respect he truly deserves," he added.

The chief adviser also commended the BAF's ongoing contributions to national security and its support during critical times, reinforcing the air force's status as a symbol of trust and resilience.
