Seminar on 'World Intellectual Property (IP) Day' held at CUET

Bangladesh must unlock and harness the vast potential hidden within the field of intellectual property to advance its standing on the global stage, said Professor Dr Mahmud Abdul Muttin Bhuiyan, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).
Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar marking World Intellectual Property (IP) Day, he underscored the profound connection between nurturing innovation and creativity and achieving sustainable economic development. "The more we as a nation embrace knowledge-based innovation and foster creativity, the closer we shall move towards lasting prosperity," he said, his words weaving a vision where ideas become the engines of national progress.
Professor Bhuiyan also stressed the critical need for the Government of Bangladesh to further elevate awareness regarding intellectual property rights and to reinforce legal mechanisms to safeguard them. He called for the creation of a more favourable environment for innovation by offering greater incentives for research and invention, laying the foundation for a culture where creativity may flourish unhindered.
The seminar, organised under the slogan "Feel the Beat of IP", was arranged by CUET's Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). It was held today, Sunday, 27 April 2025, at 2:30 PM in the Academic Council Room of CUET.
Gracing the occasion as special guests were Professor Dr Sudip Kumar Pal, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering; Professor Dr Mohammad Samsul Arefin, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Professor Dr Kazi Afzalur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering; and Professor Dr Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning. Their presence lent depth and stature to the event, as each brought wisdom from their respective fields.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Dr Sajal Chandra Banik, Director of the Directorate of Research and Extension, whose reflections illuminated the path forward for researchers and innovators alike.
The seminar was presided over by Professor Dr Md Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan, Director of CUET's IQAC, whose guiding hand shaped the day's proceedings. Professor Dr Md Sanaul Rabbi, Additional Director of IQAC, moderated the event with a steady and insightful touch.
As the afternoon sun cast its golden rays over CUET's campus, the seminar came to a close, leaving behind a renewed sense of purpose — a quiet but powerful call for Bangladesh to rise by the strength of its own ideas and inventions.
