Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 6 on Monday took Regent Group Chairman Shahed Karim alias Md Shahed to Khulna from Dhaka Central Jail to interrogate him in an arms case filed in Satkhira.

Mahbubul Islam, the jailer of Dhaka Central Jail, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

A Satkhira court on Sunday (July 26) placed Shahed on a 10-day remand in an arms case filed with Debhata Police Station in Satkhira.

On the same day, a Dhaka court rejected a bail petition by Shahed and placed him on a 28-day – seven days for each case – fresh remand in four fraud cases filed with various police stations.

On July 16, Regent Group chief Shahed and managing director Masud Parvez were placed on 10-day remand each by a Dhaka court in connection with the same cases.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against four people – including Regent Group Chairman Shahed Karim – on allegations of embezzling Tk1 crore from Padma Bank Limited.

Shahjahan Meraj, deputy assistant director of the ACC, on Monday filed the case with its integrated district office 1 in Dhaka.

Others accused in the case are Mahbubul Haque Chisty – former audit committee chairman of the bank – and his son Rashedul Haque Chisty, as well as Regent Hospital Ltd Managing Director Ibrahim Khalil.

On July 6, RAB raided the Uttara and Mirpur branches of Regent Hospital on complaints of embezzlement and that it was faking Covid-19 test results. Then RAB sealed off the two branches of the hospital.

On July 7, RAB filed a case with Uttara West Police Station accusing Regent Hospital authorities of issuing fake novel coronavirus certificates. Shahed was among the 17 people named accused in the lawsuit.

Shahed was arrested with illegal arms in a special drive carried out by RAB in Satkhira on July 15.
