Travel tips: Smart packing for efficiency
TBS has curated a list of essential travel tips for smart packing

Packing doesn't need to be a last-minute scramble. With a few smart techniques, you can fit more, stay organised, and avoid lugging around unnecessary weight. Whether you're heading out for a weekend or a month, here's how to pack like a pro.
Bite Sized: Travel tips: Smart packing for efficiency
Roll, don't fold
Rolling clothes tightly saves space and reduces wrinkles. It also makes it easier to see everything you've packed at a glance—no more digging through piles.
Roll softer items like t-shirts, leggings, and pajamas. Save folding for clothes like blazers or dress shirts.
Use packing cubes
Packing cubes are game-changers. They keep your suitcase organised by category and compress your clothes to maximise space.
Grab a compression cube set for even more space-saving. Just zip them down after filling them up.
Pack multi-purpose items
Every item in your bag should earn its place. Choose pieces that work in multiple outfits or situations.
For example, a black t-shirt works for sightseeing, dinner, or layering. For shoes, pick one pair that can go from day to night.
Stick to a neutral color palette so everything mixes and matches easily.
Layer smarter
Instead of packing bulky sweaters, layer lighter items that can be worn in different combinations. It gives you more outfit flexibility and takes up less room.
For example, a long-sleeve t-shirt under a hoodie, with a lightweight jacket would be much easier to pack.
Fill dead space
Use every inch. Stuff socks into shoes. Slide belts around the perimeter of your bag. Use the inside of hats for small items like chargers or medication bottles.
Don't waste space—use it all intentionally.
Limit shoes to two
Shoes take up space fast. All you will need is one pair for walking and one for fancier occasions. If you must, you can take a third for something specific like hiking boots or beach sandals
Wear the bulkiest pair on the plane to save space.
Keep a go-to essentials pouch
Have one small pouch that holds your most-used travel items—charger, toothbrush, lip balm, pen, passport, etc. This keeps airport chaos at bay and makes unpacking at your destination easier.
Packing efficiently is all about planning and priorities. With these techniques, you'll carry less, find things faster, and travel more comfortably. Remember: it's not about packing more—it's about packing right.
