Ducsu polls: Election Commission formation, voter list finalisation by mid-May

An Election Commission for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) polls will be formed and the voter list will be finalised by mid-May, according to a roadmap released by DU authorities today (15 April).
A statement issued with the polls timeline said the current DU administration considers Ducsu an essential part of the university's governance. Students have also shown significant interest in the upcoming elections. Considering this, DU authorities have been working sincerely to organise a fair and inclusive election.
Since December 2024, the administration has been engaging in discussions with various stakeholders to ensure a smooth electoral process, it read.
In an effort to maintain transparency and demonstrate its commitment, the university has now released the official roadmap outlining the steps taken and progress made so far toward holding a free, fair, and well-organised Ducsu polls.
The roadmap includes measures for improving electoral logistics, ensuring security and neutrality, and enhancing student participation. The administration hopes this initiative will revive student representation and strengthen democratic values within the university campus.
The last Ducsu election was held on 11 March 2019, breaking a 28-year hiatus.
Since the fall of the Awami League government in last year's mass uprising, the call from DU students for the Ducsu polls has grown louder.
