Some unidentified assailants have hacked a Krishak Dal leader to death over a dispute related to cable TV and broadband business in the Dakhinkhan area in Gazipur Sadar.

The incident took place at around 9:45pm last night (11 April), according to police and locals.

The deceased was identified as Rakib Molla, 35, son of Ibrahim Molla and the joint convener of Krishak Dal's Gazipur Sadar Metro unit. His body was sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, police said.

Sadar Metro Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan said, "There are marks of sharp weapons on different parts of Rakib's body. We suspect the murder has happened following a business-related dispute."

"Efforts are on to nab the perpetrators," the OC added.

Quoting locals, police said two individuals named Imtiaz and Selim used to operate a cable television and broadband business in the Dakhinkhan area, which Rakib forcibly took over on 9 April, which led to a dispute.

Finding Rakib alone last night, some five to six people from the rival group reportedly hacked him with locally-made sharp weapons, inflicting serious injuries, and fled. Later, Rakib was taken to the hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
