ICT asks police to initiate Interpol red notices against Quader, Kamal, 8 others
In connection with the mass killings that took place during the July-August uprising, arrest warrants have been issued against 141 individuals in 22 cases
The International Crimes Tribunal has asked Police Headquarters to initiate red notices through Interpol against 10 individuals, including former ministers Obaidul Quader and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, over charges of genocide, murder, and crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising.
The other eight individuals are – former ministers AKM Mozammel Haque, Hasan Mahmud, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, former mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, former state ministers Nasrul Hamid Bipu and Mohammad Ali Arafat, and ex-prime minister's security affairs adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique.
"The prosecution had submitted several petitions to the tribunal seeking directions for the Inspector General of Police to take necessary steps to arrest these 10 individuals through Interpol. The tribunal has granted the petitions, and the orders have now been sent to the Police Headquarters," Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam told the media on Thursday (10 April).

In connection with the mass killings that took place during the July-August uprising last year, arrest warrants have been issued against 141 individuals in 22 cases.
Of them, 54 have been arrested, while 87 remain absconding, said the chief prosecutor.
Providing a case overview, he said, "A total of 339 complaints have been filed with the tribunal. Of these, arrest warrants have been issued in 22 'miscellaneous' cases against 141 individuals. Investigations are currently ongoing in 39 cases."
"More than 1,500 people were martyred during the July uprising. Around 25,000 students and citizens were injured. There is undeniable evidence of every incident. We are confident we will be able to prove these before the tribunal," he noted
