ICT issues arrest warrant over Facebook post alleging Tk12,000cr bribe in Hasina case
The tribunal also directed authorities to take necessary legal action against individuals who liked, commented on and shared the post.
The International Crimes Tribunal has issued an arrest warrant against a man named Patwary Babu over a Facebook post alleging a Tk12,000 crore financial transaction linked to a case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The order was passed yesterday (7 April) by a judicial panel led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, chairman of International Crimes Tribunal-1, and was disclosed to the media by the prosecution today (8 April).
The tribunal also directed authorities to take necessary legal action against individuals who liked, commented on and shared the post.
Following the order, a police team led by Special Prosecutor Tanvir Zoha conducted a raid in Uttara in the capital last night, but did not find the accused.
Police said the mobile device used to upload the post from the relevant Facebook account has been seized and will be examined as part of the investigation.
The tribunal has also issued a show-cause notice asking the accused to explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated.
In the Facebook post, the individual named Patwary Babu wrote: "Asif Nazrul, Shishir Monir, Tajul Islam, and Justice Golam Mortuza Majumdar have taken nearly Tk12,000 crore from various countries and groups to sentence Sheikh Hasina to death in a staged case. After the incident became known, the illegal prosecutor of the illegal kangaroo court, Tajul, had already fled after making the CCTV footage of the International Crimes Tribunal disappear and changing the computer hard drives! It is feared that the others may also flee at any time.
"The current government must take full responsibility if these cunning fraudsters in the guise of highly educated gentlemen manage to flee the country without trial. According to the Constitution of Bangladesh, no one is above the law and justice. For the past 20 months, the illegal law adviser of the illegal government, the liar Asif Nazrul, lawyer Shishir Monir, the fraudulent illegal prosecutor Tajul Islam, and Justice Golam Mortuza Majumdar deserve punishment for the mockery they have made of Bangladesh's justice, law, and courts."
Until the tribunal's order on Tuesday, the post had received more than 6,700 likes, 1,300 comments and had been shared around 1,900 times.
