The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the appointment of Phil Simmons as the Head Coach of the National Men's Cricket Team until the ICC ODI World Cup in October–November 2027. The former West Indies batsman had initially been contracted until the end of the ICC Champions Trophy but will now continue his tenure in charge of Bangladesh cricket.

His extended stay signals the board's commitment to continuity and long-term progress for the national team.

Simmons' coaching credentials are extensive. Following an international playing career in which he represented the West Indies in 26 Tests and 143 ODIs between 1987 and 1999, he transitioned into coaching with Zimbabwe in 2004. He went on to lead Ireland for eight years from 2007 to 2015, playing a pivotal role in their rise in international cricket. He also served two terms as West Indies Head Coach, guiding them to the ICC World T20 title in 2016, and had a stint with Afghanistan from 2018 to 2019.
With his wealth of experience and Bangladesh's aspirations to compete with the world's best, Simmons' appointment offers an opportunity for the Tigers to build a formidable unit over the next three years.
