The Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram District police seized a total of 6,380 cartons of smuggled foreign cigarettes from the Aman Bazar area of Hathazari Upazila in Chattogram this morning (23 March). 

The DB also seized a pickup transporting the cigarettes and detained two individuals in this connection. According to police, the market value of the seized cigarettes, of the brands Oris and Mond, is approximately Tk10 million.

Md Russel, Additional Superintendent of Police (Industrial Zone and DB) of Chattogram, confirmed the recovery saying, "Acting on tip-off, we conducted the operation and successfully apprehended two individuals along with the foreign cigarettes."

The confiscated goods and the pickup truck have been handed over to the Hathazari police station, and legal proceedings against the suspects are underway, he said. 

The detainees have been identified as Md Shawkat Akbar, 34 and the pickup driver, Md Badsha, 26, are both residents of the Kotwali area of Rangamati district.
