With election looming, CA Yunus orders police to strengthen security for all citizens

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus today (17 March) directed the police to strengthen their efforts to maintain law and order so that every citizen of the country, including the minorities, feels safe.
Highlighting the situation on the ground, he warned that defeated forces may escalate efforts to provoke unrest as the election approaches and asked the police to stay vigilant and prevent such activities from causing disruptions, reports UNB.
Speaking at a special meeting with 127 senior police officers on law and order issues at the Chief Adviser's Office (CAO) in the capital's Tejgaon, Yunus also alerted the police about any propaganda so that the efforts to build a new Bangladesh remain unhindered.
Stressing the importance of police, he said a new Bangladesh cannot be built ignoring police.
Yunus listened to field level police officials and gave necessary directives regarding the law and order and emphasised that the incumbent has limited time before the upcoming election.
He said police are the most important unit in Bangladesh and any government initiative ultimately depends on them to create the necessary environment for implementation. "Whatever the government wants to do, it needs to be done through the police [to maintain law and order]."

Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani and Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam, among others, and two field-level police officers — Chattogram Range DIG Ahsan Habib Palash and Rajshahi Superintendent of Police (SP) Farzana Islam — also spoke at the meeting.
Attendees included the superintendents of police (SP) from all districts, ranging from deputy inspectors general to metropolitan police commissioners and unit heads, three DIGs from the police headquarters, and all additional IGPs.
Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter, Adviser to Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) affairs Supradip Chakma, Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan were also present at the meeting.
