Two people have been killed and another injured in a collision involving a watermelon-laden truck, a motorcycle, and an auto-rickshaw at Shibrampur in Faridpur's Sadar upazila.

The accident occurred around 9am today (16 March) on the Dhaka-Faridpur highway, said police.

The deceased have been identified as Noyon Sheikh, the motorcycle driver from Chandpur village in Ishan Gopalpur union, and auto-rickshaw driver Shahjahan Sheikh from Madandia village of the same union.

Md Salauddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Karimpur Highway Police Station, said the truck, which was heading towards Rajbari from Faridpur, lost control and collided with the motorcycle and the auto-rickshaw.

"Nayan Sheikh was killed on the spot, while his mother, who was riding pillion, sustained serious injuries," he said.

The auto-rickshaw driver, who was injured in the accident, died on the way to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

After the collision, the truck crashed into a roadside tree, causing it to fall and block the road. Authorities have since removed the fallen tree.

However, the truck driver fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended, added police.
