Police have arrested two individuals on charges of physically assaulting and harassing a female student from the English department of Rajshahi University (RU).

The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Tanmoy (28), and Milon (38), both residents of the Dharampur area under Motihar Police Station in Rajshahi.

Sabina Yasmin, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, confirmed the arrest.

According to an RMP press release, the incident occurred on 12 March, when Md Farhan Mahmud, a student of the English department at RU, and his female friend were having Iftar near Kajla Gate. An outsider allegedly harassed Farhan's friend, prompting her to protest.

In response, Tanmoy attempted to physically attack her. When Farhan intervened, Tanmoy and his accomplice assaulted him, injuring him in multiple areas, and physically abused his female friend.

Following Farhan's complaint, a team from Motihar Police Station reviewed CCTV footage to identify the suspects. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at 2:30am today in the Horticulture area under Rajpara Police Station and arrested the accused, said the media release.

A case has been filed against them under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Penal Code.

The accused have been sent to jail following a court order.
