Asif Nazrul-led panel to review progress in BB reserve heist probe
The committee has been tasked with evaluating the investigation's progress, reviewing government actions, identifying responsible parties, and provide necessary recommendations
The Cabinet Division has formed a six-member committee, led by Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, to review various aspects, including the progress of the investigation into the 2016 Bangladesh Bank reserve theft.
According to a gazette published today (12 March), the committee has also been tasked with reviewing government actions, identifying responsible parties, and providing necessary recommendations.
The other members of the committee are Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, chief adviser's special assistant Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur, Biman Bangladesh Airlines Director Ali Ashfaq, and Rupali Bank Chairman Nazrul Huda.

Hackers stole $101 million from Bangladesh Bank's accounts with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in February 2016.
Of this amount, $81 million was transferred to four accounts with RCBC in the Philippines, while another $20 million was sent to a bank in Sri Lanka.
However, the transfer of $20 million to Sri Lanka failed due to a spelling error by the hackers.
Later, the Bangladesh Bank managed to retrieve about $15 million from the Philippines.
Then Bangladesh Bank deputy director (Accounts and Budgeting) Zobayer Bin Huda filed a case with Motijheel Police Station on 15 March 2016 over the heist.
