University student harassed in auto-rickshaw, harasser arrested in Rajshahi
The student filmed the harassment and posted the video on Facebook, where it quickly went viral
A man has been arrested in Rajshahi for allegedly sexually harassing a university student while she was travelling in an auto-rickshaw.
The accused, identified as Masud Rana, was arrested by the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Detective Branch members this morning (12 March) in Manda, Naogaon. He is a resident of Keshabpur area in Rajshahi city.
At a press conference held at the RMP headquarters this afternoon, Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufiyan confirmed the arrest and provided details of the incident.

"On Tuesday (11 March) afternoon, a female student from a private university in Rajshahi was travelling home by auto-rickshaw. During the ride, Masud Rana, who was seated in front of her, repeatedly touched her feet and made obscene gestures, sexually harassing her," said the officer.
The student, in response to the incident, filmed the harassment and posted the video on Facebook, where it quickly went viral.
"Later that night, local residents surrounded Masud Rana's house. However, he fled with his wife and children," said the police commissioner.
Following the incident, the student filed a sexual harassment case at Rajpara Police Station this morning. With the assistance of the Cyber Crime Unit, the Detective Branch tracked down and arrested Masud Rana from Manda, Naogaon.
"In the case, Rana was sent to jail through the court," Commissioner Sufiyan added.
