NCP names 27 candidates, expects 40 seats from alliance after Islami Andolon exit
Realistically, the number may increase by highest five, says a party leader
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has released posters of 27 finalised candidates on its official Facebook page, while party leaders indicated that the number of seats allocated to the party could increase by at least five more.
Between last night (17 January) and this afternoon (18 January), the NCP's verified Facebook page published posters featuring candidates' names and photographs across 27 constituencies.
Two members of the party's election management committee told The Business Standard that discussions over several other constituencies are ongoing, and the total number of seats could rise by up to five.
Mahbub Alam, head of the NCP's election media sub-committee, said at least three additional seats were certain. "We expect to contest in 40 constituencies. These will be finalised very soon," he said.
Another joint convener of the party, wishing anonymity, noted that the party was initially allocated 30 seats within the 10-party alliance.
"After Islami Andolan Bangladesh withdrew from the alliance, we formally claimed 40 seats. Realistically, the number may increase by five," he added.
Among the candidates announced are Convener Nahid Islam in Dhaka-11, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary in Dhaka-8, Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain in Rangpur-4, Chief Organiser (south) Hasnat Abdullah in Cumilla-4, Chief Organiser (north) Sarjis Alam in Panchagarh-1, and Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud in Noakhali-6. Other candidates include Ariful Islam Adeeb in Dhaka-18, Mahbub Alam in Lakshmipur-1, SM Saif Mostafiz in Sirajganj-6, Sarwar Tushar in Narsingdi-2, Abdullah Al Amin in Narayanganj-4, SM Suza Uddin in Bandarban, Ashraf Mahdi in Brahmanbaria-2, Zobairul Hasan Arif in Chattogram-8, Mohammad Ataullah in Brahmanbaria-3, Md Abdul Ahad in Dinajpur-5, Sultan Mohammad Zakaria in Noakhali-2, Dilshana Parul in Dhaka-19, Nabila Tasnid in Dhaka-20, Atik Mujahid in Kurigram-2, Jahedul Islam in Mymensingh-11, Saifullah Hyder in Tangail-3, Javed Rasin in Dhaka-9, Ali Naser Khan in Gazipur-2, Majedul Islam in Munshiganj-2, Shamim Hamide in Pirojpur-3 and SM Jarjis Kadir in Natore-3.
