‘Intellectually challenged’ woman raped in Sylhet, 2 arrested

Police have arrested two individuals in connection with raping a woman, who is reportedly intellectually challenged, in Sylhet's Khadimnagar union.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon (11 March) in the Chharagang rubber plantation, confirmed Mohammad Saiful Islam, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police
"Several laguna drivers and helpers took the woman from Shah Paran Mazar in the early hours and raped her.
She was later admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
The arrestees are Mohammad Rakib Mia and Abdur Rahim have confessed to the crime, said the police official, adding, "Legal procedures are underway."
According to local sources, the woman was taken from Shah Paran Mazar to the Chharagang rubber plantation, where she was raped. Labourers working in the plantation later spotted her and informed locals, who rescued the woman and admitted her to Sylhet's Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The victim's sister said, "My sister is intellectually disabled. She had been missing for four days."
"We received information and found her at Osmani Medical College Hospital on Tuesday evening," she said.
"A group of men raped my sister. Later, a local ward member admitted her to the hospital," she added.
Sylhet Airport police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Anisur Rahman said police are investigating the incident.
"We have collected CCTV footage from the surrounding areas," he said.
