A man, who was arrested for molesting an American woman in Cox's Bazar, has admitted to the crime before a district court.

The arrestee Tarekur Rahman, 30, provided a confessional statement before the Senior Judicial Magistrate Hakim Md Asif Mohiuddin's court today (11 March), Cox's Bazar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ilyas Khan confirmed the matter.

OC Ilyas said, "The woman's husband filed a case against the accused yesterday night. Following his arrest this afternoon, the accused was presented before the court, where he confessed to the crime."

According to police sources, the incident took place yesterday morning when the victim and another American woman were walking along the footpath on Shahid Sarani road in the district.

Tarekur blocked their way and then molested one of the women. After the victim filed a complaint, police launched a search operation and arrested him later that day from the Jhautola area of the city.

Police said Tarekur has a prior criminal record. On 13 November 2022, he was accused of raping a five-year-old girl in Mohajer Para area. Although he was arrested at the time, he was later released on bail.
