Landslides block Cox's Bazar marine drive; Rohingya child killed in Rohingya camp
Heavy rain triggered landslides at several points along the marine drive and in Kolatoli, leaving one dead and three injured.
Heavy rainfall triggered multiple landslides along the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive today (5 August), disrupting traffic for several hours, while a separate landslide at a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya killed an eight-year-old child.
According to Colonel Humayun Kabir, project director of the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive development project, landslides occurred at several points along the road following persistent rain.
The Bangladesh Army later cleared the debris and restored traffic movement in the afternoon.

No casualties were reported along the Marine Drive, he said.
In a separate incident in Cox's Bazar's Kolatoli area, three people were injured after a landslide buried three houses. The injured were taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, an eight-year-old Rohingya child named Nunujia died after a hillside collapsed onto a shelter at Rohingya Camp-13 in Ukhiya.
Mohammad Asaduzzaman, commanding officer of the 8 Armed Police Battalion, said the child was trapped under debris when the landslide occurred around noon following continuous heavy rain.
Although local residents rescued the child and took her to a nearby camp hospital, doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department recorded 58mm of rainfall in Cox's Bazar over the past 24 hours.
