Professor M Aminul Islam, special assistant to the chief adviser in charge of the Ministry of Education, has resigned.

He submitted his resignation letter to the cabinet secretary through his personal secretary this morning (10 March).

His resignation was confirmed by the office of the special assistant at the Secondary and Higher Education Division. However, no reason was mentioned in the letter.

An official from the office, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "This morning, the resignation letter of the special assistant was submitted to the personal secretary of the Cabinet Division secretary. He [Aminul] did not state any reason for his resignation."

Meanwhile, sources said that Aminul Islam was asked to resign from the CA's office.

CR Abrar sworn in as adviser, given charge of education ministry

Aminul, a former vice-chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, previously taught at Rajshahi University.

He was appointed as a special assistant to the chief adviser in November last year, with the status of a state minister. His appointment was part of a move by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus to bring in three special assistants.

His resignation follows an earlier Facebook post, now removed, in which he stated that he had received an invitation to take oath as an adviser, leading to speculation that he would be appointed as the education adviser.

However, on 4 March, Prof CR Abrar of Dhaka University took the oath as the education adviser instead.
