Separate department being set up to help July Uprising victims: Adviser Farida

A separate department under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs is being set up to help the families of those injured and martyred during last year's July Uprising, said Farida Akhtar, adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, today (9 March).

She said the financial assistance being provided to the martyrs' family members and those injured in the anti-discrimination movement is not enough. 

"It is because of them that we got a new Bangladesh. The student community and the common people of Bangladesh never accept injustice and the 2024 student movement showed us that," she said. 

She made the remarks while addressing an event organised by the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation to distribute financial aid to the July Uparising injured at the Khulna District Shilpakala Academy.

Farida also said the current government would provide medical facilities to the injured for as long as they need it. 

"We are all indebted to the martyrs and injured in the July Uprising," she added.

At today's event, 40 of the 61 injured in Khulna were given a check of Tk1 lakh each.

So far, a total of 53 people have been provided financial assistance.
