The decision followed a human chain held earlier this afternoon led by the four SAD leaders in the city, protesting the alleged extortion by the organisation's Member Secretary Jahurul Tanvir.

Hours after the protest event, SAD Khulna unit issued a statement announcing the expulsions.

Signed by SAD Convener Al Shahriar, Member Secretary Zahurul Tanvir and Spokesperson Ayman Ahad, the statement further instructed all leaders and activists to refrain from maintaining any organisational ties with the expelled individuals.

It also clarified that the organisation will not be responsible for any of their future activities.

The expelled members did not any comments on the matter.

During the human chain protest held under the banner of general students, Joint Convener Md Ashiqur Rahman along with Joint Member Secretaries Rakib Hasan Sujan and Syed Abdullah, said, "The people of Khulna are well aware of the extortion being carried out in the name of the Students Against Discrimination. Instead of silently enduring this oppression, today we have united to stand against it."

The banner of the protest event called for the suspension of Member Secretary Zahurul Tanvir over allegations of extortion and tender manipulation.

Regarding the matter, Zahurul Tanvir said, "The expelled individuals had previously faced multiple allegations of extortion in various places."

He claimed that the issue arose because they attempted to extort at a particular location the day before.

Following this, Tanvir said the organisation's leaders decided to expel them.

He further added that a few of the expelled members organised a human chain against them, in response to which they held a counter-protest in the evening with 300 students.
