7 businesses fined Tk98,000 for various offences, including hoarding soybean oil in Ctg

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined a total of Tk98,000 against seven businesses in Chattogram for various violations, including overpricing and hoarding bottled soybean oil.
During a regular monitoring drive today (6 March) in the city's Riazuddin Bazar area, Ms JK Traders was fined Tk50,000 for selling "Super Oil" at an inflated price and hiding bottled soybean oil.
Additionally, six other establishments faced fines totalling Tk48,000 for different violations.
Messrs Yasin Boiler was fined Tk3,000 for failing to display a price list, MKS Trading was fined Tk20,000 for selectively selling soybean oil without ensuring fair service, and Messrs. Baghdad Traders was fined Tk10,000 for charging an excessive price for soybean oil.
Meanwhile, Shahmir Store, Messrs Gausia, and Tamim General Store were each fined Tk5,000.
The operation was conducted by the Chattogram divisional and district offices of the DNCRP. The team included Deputy Director Faiz Ullah and Assistant Directors Anisur Rahman, Rana Debnath, and Mahmuda Akhter.
Mahmuda Akhter, assistant director of the DNCRP Chattogram divisional office, told The Business Standard that the monitoring activities aim to ensure consumer rights and take action against market irregularities.
