Several 'brokers' sent to jail after drives at DMCH, BRTA
Several people were sent to jail today (6 March) after being identified as brokers during separate drives at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority office in Mirpur.
The DMCH operation was conducted at around 10:30am jointly by the army and police when several members of a brokers' network were arrested.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Yamin Sarkar of Shahbagh Police Station said brokers have various ways of deceiving patients who visit the hospital. "The joint operation by the army and police was conducted to eliminate these brokers."

Dhaka District Senior Executive Magistrate Afrin Jahan stated that several of them were fined and sentenced to varying terms in jail.
In a separate operation at around 11:30am, a mobile court drive was held at the Mirpur BRTA and surrounding areas under the joint leadership of Executive Magistrates Md Anisuzzaman and Mohammad Sajid Anwar.
During the operation, 15 individuals were initially detained on suspicion of being brokers. After further inspection, 12 of them were identified as actual brokers and were sentenced to three months of imprisonment.
The arrestees are Asadul Islam, Yasin Islam Imon, Masud Rana, Md Sujon, Shabuj Kabiraj, Imran Hossain, Mintu, Zahir, Ashik, Abul Kashem, Md Najmul and Md Bellal.
The magistrates stated that the operation will continue until the BRTA is free of brokers.
