Ex-MP of Dhaka-20 MA Malek arrested from Mirpur
According to police, the former lawmaker is accused in several cases filed over the killing of students and people during the July-August uprising

Police have arrested the former Dhaka-20 MP and the Awami League's (AL) Dhamrai Upazila unit President MA Malek from the capital's Mirpur-1 area.
Malek was arrested during a joint drive conducted by Dhaka Metropolitan Police and officials from Ashulia Police Station last night (5 March), confirmed Additional Superintendent of Police Shahinur Kabir of Dhaka District Police (Savar Circle).
According to police, the former lawmaker is accused in several cases filed over the killing of students and people during the July-August uprising.
Shahinur said the AL leader is accused in four murder cases filed at Ashulia Police Station over the killing of students and people during last year's mass uprising.
Malek will be sent to the court this afternoon, he added.
Malek was elected unopposed from Dhaka-20 constituency with Awami League's ticket in the 10th national election held in 2014.
He ran as an independent candidate in the 12th parliamentary polls in 2024 after failing to secure a nomination from AL. But he was defeated by AL candidate Benjir Ahmed.
