Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today (2 March) urged the Philippines to play crucial role as an Asean member state for a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis.

During a meeting with newly appointed Philippines ambassador to Bangladesh Nina Padilla Cainglet, the adviser also sought the Philippines support for Bangladesh's bid to become a sectoral dialogue partner of Asean. 

Discussions focused on the bilateral trade and investment, direct air connectivity, renewable energy, education, nursing education, agricultural and pending bilateral instruments between the two countries.

Ambassador Cainglet informed that the Philippines is preparing to convene the 3rd Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) soon to discuss the existing bilateral issues and new areas of collaboration.

The foreign adviser sought the Philippines' support for Bangladesh's bid to become a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN and for a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis. 

Ambassador Cainglet expressed her keen interest to work on the issues of mutual interests between the two countries. 

Touhid assured her of all possible support and extended best wishes for a successful tenure in Bangladesh. Finally, both reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Bangladesh-Philippines relations.
