Home ministry outlines steps taken to strengthen law and order

The Home Affairs Ministry, in a statement released today (2 March), outlined a series of ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing law and order across the country.

These include increased law enforcement check posts nationwide and workshops for police, administration, judiciary, and public prosecutors to strengthen their responsibility fulfilment skills.

The statement, signed by Public Relations Officer Faisal Hasan, affirmed that the implementation of these initiatives is being closely monitored.

As per the statement, the key initiatives taken by the ministry are as follows:

1. A special operation has been launched across the country since 8 February to apprehend identified criminals, terrorists, and individuals involved in drug trafficking and smuggling.
2. Workshops on "Application of Law with Emphasis on Human Rights and Environment in the Changed Situation of the Country" have been held nationwide with the participation of police, administration, judiciary, and public prosecutors to boost the morale of law enforcement agencies and enhance their ability to fulfil their responsibilities.
3. Heads of various police units, deputy commissioners of Police, brigade heads deployed in the Army, and other responsible officers are briefing the media on decisions taken regarding each incident.
4. Search posts and check posts have been increased at key locations in the capital, and patrols have been intensified in crime-prone areas. Joint forces comprising the Army, various police units, and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are conducting targeted operations.
5. In addition to regular patrols on major roads in the capital, additional patrols by the Navy and Coast Guard have been deployed.
6. Combined operations are being carried out to arrest criminals, including snatchers, robbers, teenage gangs, and others in high-crime areas.
7. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to take swift action by updating the list of ward-based criminals.
8. Patrols have been increased in areas surrounding Dhaka, particularly in Tongi, Bosila, Keraniganj, and Munshiganj.
9. Steps have been taken to procure motorcycles for members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), BGB, Ansar, and Bangladesh Coast Guard to enable rapid response in narrow alleys.
10. Measures have been introduced to counter misinformation and propaganda by disseminating accurate information.
11. The home adviser, special assistant to the chief adviser, home secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), DMP commissioner, and senior law enforcement officials are conducting surprise inspections of police stations, check posts, and patrol activities in the early morning and late at night.
12. The home adviser has held meetings with law enforcement officials across all administrative divisions and issued necessary directives.
13. Ministry of Home Affairs officials have been assigned to regularly monitor night-time patrols and check post activities in Dhaka to improve law enforcement effectiveness.
14. Case monitoring committees have been formed at district and metropolitan levels to verify cases and ensure that real criminals are identified, preventing wrongful prosecution of innocent individuals.
15. Cases involving families of the martyrs of the July Revolution are being closely monitored to ensure that the real perpetrators are brought to justice.
16. All incidents related to law and order are being reviewed with priority by the Ministry of Home Affairs, with necessary measures being taken accordingly.
