Crab fishing resumes in Sundarbans after 2 months
Fishermen, who rely on crab fishing for their livelihood, expressed relief at the resumption of their activities

Crab fishing has resumed in the Sundarbans rivers and canals after a two-month ban.
The Forest Department began issuing permits to fishermen from Satkhira range station today (1 March).
Ziaur Rahman, station officer of Burigoalini at the Sundarbans Satkhira range, confirmed the lifting of the ban.
According to Forest Department, the ban is implemented during the crab breeding season (January and February) to protect the 14 crab species found in the Bangladesh part of Sundarbans.
Fishermen, who rely on crab fishing for their livelihood, expressed relief at the resumption of their activities.
Sirajul Sheikh, a fisherman from Sora village, shared the challenges faced during the ban, saying, "Crab fishing was closed for two months, and we had to survive by borrowing money."
Forester Saiful Islam said, "If the Sundarbans remain closed for six months out of the year, we have no employment opportunities. This puts us in serious difficulty."
