1,200 runners join Dhaka University’s race for a greener campus

Dhaka University hosted the 'DURC 10K 2025' awareness-raising race, with over 1,200 runners participating in the vibrant 10K and 5K running event under the theme 'Run for a Green Campus'.
The race, organised by the Dhaka University Runners Community, commenced at 5:45 AM on Friday, 28 February. The event brought together renowned runners from across the country, including Dhaka University athletes, Ironman competitors, master athletes, Everest summiteers, Powerman contenders, and national and international professional and amateur runners.
The race started from the Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall gate (Bashunia Arch), passing through the Vice-Chancellor's Square, TSC, Shahbagh, and then making a U-turn at Dhaka University Metro, Dhaka Gate, and Shikkha Bhaban. The route continued with another U-turn at Doel Chattar, covering the Central Shaheed Minar, Sculpture Square, British Council, and Nilkhet University Arch, before returning to Bashunia Arch. Competitors in the 5K race completed one lap, while those in the 10K category ran two laps.
Participants who completed the 10K within 1 hour 40 minutes and the 5K within 60 minutes received a finishing medal, refreshments, and other prizes. Cash prizes and unique memorabilia were also awarded to 12 male and female winners across the two race categories. A new running award, the 'Last Finisher Award', was introduced at this event to recognise the final finisher.
The race results were determined based on gun time. The podium winners were announced during the prize-giving ceremony from 8:00 to 8:30 AM. In the 10K women's category, Sabrina Akter Sorna secured the championship title, with Eri Li as the first runner-up and Rita Devi in third place. In the 10K men's category, Ashraful Alam was crowned champion, followed by first runner-up Palash Sheikh Palash and second runner-up Md Rahim Uddin.
In the 5K women's category, Teresa Kochi won the championship, while Sadia Murshed and Jonaki Akter Moni finished as the first and second runners-up, respectively. In the 5K men's category, Md Amir Hossain Amu claimed the title, with Md Imon as the first runner-up and Mohammad Saidus Saklain securing third place.
Dhaka University's Physical Education Centre and the Proctorial Team supported the event, with further assistance from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Bangladesh Athletics Federation. The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Deco, Chardike, Southeast Bank, Gigabyte, CODS, PriyoShop, Vroovana, and Fuel, among others, provided medical support and additional sponsorships.
