EWU honours Ekushey Padak winner, avro co-founder Rifat Nabi

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at East West University (EWU) organised a felicitation ceremony to honour its alumnus, Rifat Nabi, co-founder of the Bengali typing software 'Avro,' for receiving the prestigious Ekushey Padak, a national award of Bangladesh.
The event occurred on 20 February 2025 at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium.
Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Advisor of EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank were the Chief Guest at the ceremony, which was presided over by Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU. On occasion, Rifat Nabi was honoured with a laptop computer as a token of appreciation.
In his speech, Rifat Nabi shared that his enthusiasm for programming flourished after enrolling at EWU, eventually leading him to join the Avro team. He emphasised the importance of gaining knowledge and skills in one's area of interest that can be valuable in the future.
Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin expressed his pride in Rifat Nabi's achievement, stating that it brought honour to EWU. He also praised the ethical decision of Avro team leader Mehdi Hasan to accept the Ekushey Padak collectively with the team, highlighting the importance of integrity.
Other speakers at the event included Dr. Mahin Islam, Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Dr. Anisur Rahman, Proctor of EWU. The ceremony was attended by Rifat Nabi's guardians and relatives, the Treasurer, faculty members, officers, and students of EWU.
