Islami Bank PLC discusses diagnostic mission on Islamic Banking in Bangladesh

A discussion meeting titled "Diagnostic Mission on Islamic Banking in Bangladesh" under the Technical Cooperation Programme of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) was held on Monday, 11 February 2025, at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

Mohammed Monirul Moula, Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, presided over the event, while Md Siddiqur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director of Standard Bank PLC, delivered the welcome speech. Dr  Golzare Nabi, Director of the Research Department of Bangladesh Bank, addressed the audience representing the Central Bank. Md. Shamsuddoha, Senior Executive Vice President of IBBPLC, delivered a presentation on "Analysis of Islamic Banking Landscape in Bangladesh."

Representing the IsDB team, Professor Emeritus Dato Dr Mohd Azmi Omar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance, and Muhammad Nasir Sulaiman, Head of the IsDB Regional Hub (Bangladesh and Maldives), addressed the audience. Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, Managing Director of Shahjalal Islami Bank, and Md Ahsan-uz-Zaman, Managing Director of Midland Bank, also addressed the audience. Md Anwarul Islam, CEO of Agrani Bank; Mohammad Abu Jafar, Managing Director and CEO of Premier Bank; M. Shamsul Arefin, Managing Director of NCC Bank; Farman R. Chowdhury, Managing Director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank; M. Akhter Hossain, Managing Director (Current Charge) of EXIM Bank; Md Nazmus Saadat, Managing Director of Social Islami Bank; Abu Reza Md. Yeahia, Acting Managing Director of First Security Islami Bank, and Ataus Samad, Managing Director (Current Charge) of Global Islami Bank, were present among distinguished attendees.

Representatives of the Bangladesh Bank and IsDB delegations, senior executives of the country's full-fledged Islamic banks, banks operating Islamic banking branches and windows, officials from the Shariah Secretariat, and heads of Islamic banking divisions attended the event.

The event was organised by Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC under the directive of Bangladesh Bank and the supervision of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB), with the cooperation of full-fledged Islamic banks, banks operating Islamic branches and windows.
