BGB Director General inaugurates tree plantation drive-2025 in Pilkhana

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has launched its annual week-long tree plantation campaign, with BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui inaugurating the programme by planting a Bakul sapling at the Bakultala premises of BGB Headquarters in Pilkhana on Thursday.
Speaking at the inauguration, the BGB chief emphasised the significance of the campaign in contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development. "We have gathered here today for a noble purpose," he said, reflecting on the broader vision of building a greener, stronger Bangladesh.
In a poignant moment, Major General Siddiqui recalled the sacrifices made during the July Uprising, noting that "exactly one year ago, a new time began—to move the country forward through the power of the people." He prayed for the souls of the martyrs and extended wishes for the recovery of those injured.
This year's theme for the National Tree Plantation Campaign is "Planned Afforestation, Build a Green Bangladesh". In line with this, the BGB chief called on all BGB establishments across the country—including battalions, sector headquarters, and border outposts—to plant trees in a planned manner and ensure their proper maintenance.
He also urged personnel to take ownership of the initiative by caring for the planted saplings, emphasising that the long-term environmental impact depends not just on planting but on sustained maintenance.
BGB, as a disciplined force stationed in both urban and remote areas, plays a critical role in nationwide greening efforts. Through this campaign, the organisation aims to enhance environmental awareness among its members and support the national afforestation agenda.
The BGB tree plantation campaign is part of a broader government initiative encouraging all institutions to contribute to ecological balance and climate resilience in the face of growing environmental challenges.
