Fakhrul hails govt for launching ‘Operation Devil Hunt’
He said the nation should move slowly to ensure the success of the interim government
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has appreciated the interim government for launching 'Operation Devil Hunt', a joint forces drive aimed at maintaining law and order across the country, following Friday night's attack on students and ordinary people in Gazipur.
"We know fascists are devils…it seems good sense has prevailed upon them (interim govt) after so long. That is why we thank them," he said on Sunday, in response to a journalist's question about the new drive by the joint forces, shortly after his return from the USA.
Fakhrul and BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on an Emirates Airlines flight around 4:58pm from the USA after attending the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC.

After coming out of the airport, Fakhrul spoke to journalists, urging all democratic forces to proceed with caution.
The government launched the 'Operation Devil Hunt' on Saturday to ensure law and order and bring criminals to justice.
Fakhrul said the students and the people of Bangladesh achieved success in their uprising by overthrowing the fascist Hasina government.
He, however, bemoaned that ousted fascist ruler Sheikh Hasina is still conspiring against the country.
"Let us not fall into her trap. The stability of the country is now being destroyed, and instability is being created. Hasina's fascist regime is entirely responsible for this. We have to tread carefully," the BNP leader said.
He said the nation should move slowly to ensure the success of the interim government, led by Dr Muhammad Yunus.
"We can't dispel the darkness by passing on darkness. We have to dispel that darkness with light. We must move forward with that beacon of light," Fakhrul observed.
He called upon everyone to unite and work together to protect the country's independence and sovereignty, maintain stability, and continue efforts to establish democracy.
The BNP leader said their US tour was fruitful, as they succeeded in achieving the purpose for which they had gone there.
In response to a question, he said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is doing well and is still receiving treatment in the UK.
Asked about his experience of taking part in the National Prayer Breakfast and other meetings together with Party Acting Chairman's daughter Zaima Rahman, Fakhrul described it as a good experience.
Earlier on Thursday, Fakhrul, Khosru, and Barrister Zaima Rahman attended the National Prayer Breakfast in the United States.
The traditional event, held this year at the Washington Hilton, took place following the inauguration of Donald Trump as the new US President.
Besides, the BNP delegation held meetings with Robert Destro, the former US Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labour and former South Carolina Governor David Beasley on Wednesday.
On 11 January, the National Prayer Breakfast Committee extended invitations to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury to participate in the event.
BNP sources mentioned that Tarique Rahman sent his daughter to represent him, as he preferred to stay in the UK to care for his mother, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is currently receiving medical treatment there.
