An angry mob has set the house of former minister SM Rezaul Karim on fire in Pirojpur's Nazirpur Upazila.

The violence began when the enraged mob vandalised and set fire to Karim's residence, located in Nazirpur on Thursday night.

The attackers also vandalised the local Awami League office and the home of Mosharaf Hossain Khan, former upazila chairman and president of Nazirpur Upazila Awami League. The house of Karim's brother, Nure Alam Shaheen, a former Upazila chairman, was similarly targeted and set ablaze.
Eyewitnesses said that the unrest began around 8:30 pm when a group of angry students gathered in the town and marched through various streets, wreaking havoc on political offices and the homes of former Awami League representatives. The mob, which continued its rampage until midnight, also destroyed the homes of Nazirpur Upazila Jubo League General Secretary Chanchal Kanti Bishwa and Upazila Vice Chairman Sheikh Mostafizur Rahman.

In a separate incident on the same night, a mob ransacked the house of former chairman SM Baizid Hossain, located on the Bypass Road in Pirojpur's municipality, before setting it on fire. Another prominent figure, Advocate Baizid Ahmed Khan, former president of Dhaka Metropolitan Chhatra League (South) and ex-chairman of Mathbaria Upazila, also had his property in Mathbaria vandalised and torched around 10pm.
