Sculptures and murals of Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman have been vandalised across Jashore by agitated crowds as part of the demolishment programme that has swept the country targeting establishments and installations linked to Awami League leaders since yesterday (5 February).

They also vandalised the sculpture depicting scenes from the Liberation War on the wall of the Monihar Victory Column.

At least seven sculptures and murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were vandalised since 11:00pm yesterday, our Jashore correspondent reports.

Besides, nameplates of Hasina in various government departments have been demolished.

At around 11:30pm, an agitated student-public group vandalised and destroyed the mural of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman inside the Jashore Municipality office.

Following which, while shouting slogans, they vandalised the mural of Mujib in the Muktijoddha Complex building, a sculpture at Bakultala, a mural inside the Zilla Parishad, and the memorial plaque of Hasina at the Central Shaheed Minar.

They later vandalised and destroyed the sculpture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman inside the Sadar Upazila Parishad office.

In addition, incidents of vandalism of Upazila Parishad sculptures in Abhaynagar, Jhikargachha, and Keshabpur have also been reported.
