Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie has assured everyone that his party would not allow anyone to pollute the society through extortion and corruption.

"If anyone wants to pollute the society through bombings, extortion, arbitration meetings outside or inside the party, it will not be allowed at all," he told at a function today (5 February).

Annie, also former BNP lawmaker, was speaking as the chief guest at a prize distribution ceremony of the annual sports competition of Dattapara Ram Ratan Bahumukhi Adarsha High School in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila this afternoon.

Annie added: "It's clear that everyone is equal in the party (BNP). Everyone has to accept this. None will be pardoned for committing a crime."

Noting that there is a difference between Awami League (AL) and BNP, Annie further said, "AL has committed looting, disappearances and murders. It has never tried to come to power through holding polls, or to speak as public representatives."

The Awami League had shown the thumbs up to the elections, it had held the people, educational institutions and students hostage and subsequently created a 'paradise of looting', he stated.

Mentioning that the common people had a deep relationship with president Ziaur Rahman, Chowdhury Annie said Begum Khaleda Zia's uncompromising leadership, compassion for the people of the country, and her natural politics have increased the relationship with people.

He said people have trust in the words of acting chairman Tarique Rahman and it is clear from his words that he won't spare anyone.

Tarique Rahman and BNP want to establish the rights of common students as well as to ensure the rights of students, the BNP leader added.

School Managing Committee President M Bellal Hossain presided over the event. Principal Mohammed Hanif conducted the programme.

Later, Annie handed over the prizes among the students.
