The British Council celebrates the achievements of the commonwealth scholars

The British Council Bangladesh hosted a Commonwealth Scholars Welcome Home event yesterday to celebrate the achievements of Commonwealth Scholars who recently returned after completing their studies in the United Kingdom. The event, held at the British Council premises on Fuller Road, brought together scholars, distinguished guests, and representatives from the British High Commission and the Bangladesh Association of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows (BACSAF).

The evening began with a warm welcome from Professor Borhan Uddin Khan, President of the Bangladesh Association of Commonwealth Scholars And Fellows (BACSAF), who highlighted the Commonwealth Scholars' significant contributions to Bangladesh's development.

Mozammel Mia, an Associate Professor at BRAC Business School, and Madhurima Shaha, a recent graduate, shared their experiences of studying in the UK, emphasising the impact of their education on their personal and professional growth.

The bright and ambitious scholars who have just returned to Bangladesh after completing their studies in the UK, enriched by their experiences in the UK, will make their mark here in Bangladesh in such fields as education, culture, and sustainable development.

In his remarks, Stephen Forbes, Country Director Bangladesh, British Council, said, 'Your dedication and commitment to achieving this significant educational milestone in the UK are truly inspiring. We encourage you to stay connected with the Bangladesh Association of Commonwealth Scholars And Fellows (BACSAF), continuing to share your experiences, insights, and contributions as part of this vibrant network. I believe your work will have an incredible impact on driving Bangladesh's development and addressing challenges on a global scale.'

Adding a touch of cultural vibrancy to the evening, Ishrar Habib, Co-founder of Clefs Music Foundation and a Commonwealth Scholar, performed a selection of traditional and contemporary music, enthralling the audience.

The event also formally introduced BACSAF to the returning scholars, with Borhan Uddin Khan, President of BACSAF, outlining the association's mission to build a stronger network and foster collaboration among Commonwealth alumni.

As the event concluded with a networking session, there was a shared excitement and anticipation for future initiatives. The "Welcome Home" event celebrated the scholars' academic achievements and laid the groundwork for a robust alumni network poised to contribute meaningfully to Bangladesh's growth and development.
